Scrolling through some imagery from a few years ago, while we were living in San Francisco, and I came across one of my favorite places to escape to . . . Manka’s Lodge in Inverness. There is a quite calm that takes over once you head north from San Francisco, almost immediately as your cross the bridge your body and mind just exhale. Inverness is just a couple hours from downtown SF, and Manka’s is a hidden gem in the hills above Tomales Bay. A place one never wants to leave.

Over my visit to Texas this past May I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph my talented friend Megan Magill. Megan is an extremely talented chef and is overwhelmingly knowledgable about natural foods and their benefits. We had a such a fun time shooting in my parent’s kitchen in Kemah, TX, and Megan even brought her sweet puppy, Bodie. Such a cutie!
It was Megan’s first time working with a photographer for her new business, which was really great and an eye opener for me as to how to work through the process with a friend and fellow small business owner. We set up a few times to chat before the shoot, as I live in Amsterdam and she lives in Houston. We then compiled a Pinterest board to pull together ideas and inspiration as to how she would like the images to look. I had her think about the image she wanted to portray for her business and what types of imagery would reflect her work, her personality, and her brand best. Megan decided that light, airy, and bright would help convey the ideas of health and wellness and I couldn’t agree more. Pairing fresh local ingredients with my mother’s beautiful vintage Mexican pottery and handmade plates with our old school tiny kitchen, evoked Megan’s California casual vibe that is fun, healthy and approachable. Choosing a photographer to help jumpstart your business and your marketing is hard work! And it’s important to make sure that you are on the same page and have a mutual understanding a respect for what each other does. Looking forward to another shoot with Megan this winter as I head back to Texas in a few weeks time.
